PARIS RECS, Post 002.5 will include the story of Early June and the recipe for our green chili nuoc mam.
Firstly, we’d like to apologize for our slight tardiness in the delivery of this newsletter. Between an unexpected family trip to California and an eager frenchman staying in our apartment looking to “see the sights”, we’ve had our hands full. But! We’re getting better at our self proclaimed deadlines, and are finding this newsletter very fun to make :) Below, as promised, is our extra special Paris edition: a list of all our favorite places to eat and drink, compiled after probably doing too much of both/ “all in the name of research”…….

This, as they say, is truly the “goat”. It has been around for 30 years and is owned and operated by a couple, Raquel and Pinuche, She cooks, he stands out front with his arm’s crossed, scowling and occasionally pouring wine. They are both in their 70’s -she had a stroke last year, but has seemingly not let that stop her in the slightest, she is very much “the boss”. One time, Pinuche was feeling especially broody and scolded our big, rowdy table for being too loud, warning that if we didn’t quiet down, Raquel would have another stroke, and it would definitely be our fault. The first time we went, we arrived just as they were opening, and caught a glimpse of a big, burly cook smoking a cigarette IN the kitchen. There is a man named Charles, the only server, who spends all service running around with his giant chalkboard, sweating and rattling off the specials. All this is so charming, so unfussy, so disarmingly true to itself, with food that tastes exactly as homey/ grandmotherly/ genuinely delicious as you’d imagine. We love it here.
